I get up without answering and start the bath, pouring in his woodsy and citrusy soap. His tub is comically small, but we manage to lower him into it. I cram towels under his right arm. Then I take a washcloth and run it over his body, washing his cock and chest, armpits and feet. I sit on the edge of the tub and lather his hair, trying to sift through the past few weeks.

I can’t without wanting to puke.

“Are you hungry?” I towel dry his hair, watching him sag in relief against the wall after I’d put his boxers on.

“Are you?”

My stomach turns at the mere thought of food. I shake my head. “Everything makes me nauseous.”

“Is that normal?”

I roll my eyes. “How the hell am I supposed to know?” I pull out a pair of gym shorts from his drawer and bend down to help him into them.

“Don’t you think you should find out? No matter what, we have to make sure the baby’s good, remember?” he reminds me softly, reaching down to stroke my cheek where I stand by his waist. The feel of his touch is a reminder of all I want in this world. Even if these wants are new, they’re mine, and I will have them.

“I can get Medicaid.” I push to my feet and start moving. I have to keep moving. “Even if I get a job, I’ll still be able to keep it for medical.”

“Bach still wants me to show up at the dealership on Monday.
